Thank you for your series of Bonsai videos.

I contacted the American Bonsai Society and they hope to have a revised and expanded version of David DeGroot’s book by the end of this year (2011).

Another excellent book is Charles S. CeronioBonsai’s “Bonsai Styles of the World”. Also a bit hard to get at the moment but I believe it’s being reprinted.

@OzzieBonsai That is such great news! This book is really good and I still refer back to it after all these years. I appreciate you checking with ABS and letting me know!

@OzzieBonsai I’m not familiar with that one, but I’ll check it out. There are so many books out there that just say the same things over and over. It’s nice to find ones that really help and make a difference.

basics of Bonsai, I started from the ground up, literally. The Maple tree in my yard spit seeds last season, I collected a bunch and started them in the ground, then when they got 2-3′ I moved them into 1/2 gal pots. Now they are just about to come out of dormancy and I am preparing to give them their first pruning. I hear that you can prune back to the first node… they are all “whips” no branches, I want to get them to branch and keep them 3′, what would you suggest? How low can I cut?
